Happy St Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick was a 5th-century Christian missionary and bishop credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was captured and enslaved as a teenager and taken to Ireland, where he worked as a shepherd. After escaping and returning home, he later felt called to return to Ireland as a missionary. Patrick established churches, trained clergy, and used familiar symbols and stories to explain Christian teachings—most famously using the three-leafed shamrock to illustrate the Trinity. His writings, including the Confessio, provide insight into his life and faith. Celebrated on March 17, St. Patrick is honored for his role in Ireland’s Christianization and his legacy of evangelism and pastoral care.
