Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day season of reflection, repentance, and spiritual renewal in many Christian traditions. Observed on the Wednesday 46 days before Easter, it invites believers to examine their lives, turn back to God, and prepare their hearts for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. A central practice is the imposition of ashes—usually a cross of ashes placed on the forehead—symbolizing human mortality ("from dust you came, and to dust you shall return") and the call to repentance. Worship on Ash Wednesday often includes Scripture readings, prayer, confession, and a brief sermon, setting a tone of humility and intentionality for the Lenten journey ahead.
