What is Orange?

At Harmony Church we’ve gone “Orange”! We encourage everyone to “Think Orange, Live Orange” …may sound silly but let me explain. Reggie Joiner is founder and CEO of Orange, and the Orange Concept is centered around a basic art lesson that when you mix yellow with red you get the color orange. For the Orange Concept, yellow represents the church (shining God’s light) and red represents the family (love, heart, home). The Orange Concept states, “two combined influences make a greater impact than just two individual influences”. When the church comes alongside to help families, those 2 influences (the church and families) will have a bigger impact on kids simply by working together.

At Harmony Church, we “Think Orange, Live Orange” each month by focusing on an Orange Life Application, or theme. Both our sermons for the adults and lessons for the kids are based on these Life Applications. This allows parents to have conversations with their kids throughout the week on what was learned in church! Some of our recent Life Apps have been kindness, patience, self-control, commitment and perseverance. Each week’s sermon and kid’s lesson have Bible stories and verses that relate to the monthly Life Application. All our Orange Life Applications are great concepts for everyday life for both adults and kids!

Outside the walls of Harmony Church, everyone is still encouraged to “Think Orange, Live Orange”! In our everyday lives we are still the color yellow, representing the church. We need to remember to shine God’s light wherever we go, we need to see how we can help others and how we can make a greater impact by working together with others in our community! We should look at everyday situations through “Orange colored glasses”!

Now, I’m a “visual person”, besides reading or hearing about things I like to SEE them! So, this Orange Concept is great for me! By wearing something the color orange it helps me to remember to “Think Orange, Live Orange”. Now just because I’m a visual person doesn’t mean I had a whole lot of orange in my closet, in fact I had to increase my orange garments by 100% (meaning I had NOTHING orange in my closet!). So, I’ve added a few orange shirts and scarves to my wardrobe! Accessories are “my thing” too, so orange bracelets and necklaces have also been added. In fact, I try to wear a little something orange every day! It’s just my simple little way of remembering to always Think Orange!

How can you “Think Orange, Live Orange” today?!

Until next time!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
